Still trying to sort out the ins and
Still trying to sort out the ins and outs of owning and renting in Italy (Umbria). As this is our first full year I had no idea, no had we had a discussion with our caretaker, about how many times he would visit the house during our absence, what he would do, or what he would charge. Can someone give me a guideline for how many time it would seem appropriate to have a rural home checked during our absence and what might be a fair cost. Also we have harvested our grapes, approximately 55 vines with the help of our caretaker and another gentleman with knowledge about the wine process. We went into the arrangement with a 1/3, 1/3, 1/3 agreement. Now our caretaker is looking for compensation to fertilize, etc. Not sure who will pay for the bottling either. Is there some sort of rule of thumb for this type of share cropping? We speak some Italian, but difficult to ascertain if we are being taken advantage of in our relationship with workers. Thanks for the help.
