Many Italians know this recipe by heart. Called torta sette vasetti (“seven-jar cake”), it’s almost embarrassingly simple to make. The ingredients add up to seven “jars” when you use a yogurt container as the measuring cup.

The yogurt and olive oil combine to create a wonderful, tart-sweet flavor. You can serve it cut in half and topped with jam. While it’s great plain, there are dozens of ways to vary it by adding spices, fruit, chocolate and more.
