There are countless savory zucchini pies and breads in Tuscany, but the only notably sweet one is a kind of baked frittata, officially called scarpaccia (because it looks like the sole of an old shoe — albeit a very delicious sole!). 

It’s found in the seaside town of Viareggio  —  in homes or bakeries rather than restaurants — where it’s better known as la torta dell’orto or “the garden cake,” since it makes such great use of the bumper crop of zucchini found in everyone’
