Someone asked me to report on our stay in the Ospizio San Gottardo on our way down by car. Having recovered sufficiently from the heat on arrival in Italy here goes:Thanks to all of you who recommended routes and hotels.
In September I'm doing the nearest I'll ever do to jetsetting by flying back to London for a meeting then out again the next day! I'm planning to leave the hire car at Ciampino overnight.

thanks all, XE says in order to use EFT (whatever that is) I have to include "branch code" which they further decribe as ( amongst other things) a sort code. Already given my IBAN. for someone who doesn'tknow her BACS from her CHAPS I'm not sure it's worth the effort. For a tenner I can transfer direct from my UK bank to Italian bank - either online or with a 5 minute walk down the road. Exchange rate probably not thebest, but I'm never moving large amounts around and as a satisficier NOT a maximiser I'm happy to pay for lack of hassle! :-)
It's pretty easy to open a bank account online and if you need to provide proof that's probably easy for identity theft specialists. Also police unlikely to be interested and Y is in Holland which makes it more complicated for him.
Because it was last minute I think he paid the full amount with a "10% discount". He probably thought he was getting a bargain
...for all your combined expert knowledge. I've got a much better picture in my head now and will be able to avoid asking for silly amounts like "half a quintale". I'll probably get about 15-20 which should be plenty. Whole family out in September so lots of hands to do the stacking!
Whilst the Daily Mail, as Jeremy Hardy once memorably said, is the paramilitary wing of Women's Realm : D
So have I
but it wasn't the whole field and didn't look planned. good luck Dylano and yes please keep me posted.
I'd be interested in anything that was drought resistant and also hardy enough to withstand mountain winters. UK staples eg geraniums (not pelargoniums) and irises (in colours other than blue) My taste is for plants that are close to or are native species (ie weeds). I did ask the tourist office in Visso why it didn't sell packs of seeds from the mountain flora - I would certainly buy those. Some of the thistle-type things I've seen in the Sibillinis are very dramatic even when just the seed husk is left. And a field left uncultivated near us is a fantastic blue which (I think) is some sort of vetch And since I'm rubbish with seeds (don't have the patience), would certainly be happy to buy plants someone else has grown on PS - also a fan of grasses. Some of the wild ones round us have fantastic sprays if left to develop. And a huge range of grasses is drought-resistant
i got the best image I could with help from techie son and took it to the copyshop who did a superb job so I now have an A2 poster! after more googling I thinkthere may be an original in the cable car housing at gran sasso which is a good excuse to go back there again.. moruzzo Ithink I've just bought the same poster off Amazon.
We are right out in the sticks above Comunanza and have about 0.9Mb which allows all the usual internet stuff plus watching BBC Iplayer with only occasional buffering. (can't get Channel 4 or ITV to work though). Doesn't really drop off in our area but then probably noone else on our line uses the internet! Sorry, should explain, we are using Telecom Italia ADSL
