After my success answering Annec's question, its my turn. However, I’m not clever enough for an ‘Italian’ question – so I’ll go for one with a ‘Greek’ connection insteadI’m a ‘sad’ man who likes numbers.

The way I funded buying my holiday property in Italy a few years ago was to extend the mortgage on my [UK] home.  Have you considered that?

Emailed Italymag.  They are working on the 'date's issue.  They hope to have it fixed in the next few days.

Swiss motorway vignette. To use the Swiss motorways, assuming you go that way, you'll need a vignette. However, if you already have a 2019 vignette, it is valid up to the end of January 2020, so would cover your trip.

Use "Via Michelin " to sort out your route. Its probably about 11 to 12 hours driving, plus stops.

Good place to stop about 2 hrs from Calais is Reims area. We use the Novotel at Riems Tinquex, it does better food than the nearby Ibis, and is just off the motorway. We book it through the Accor website, but if you look at "Booking.com" you can see what else is available in the area.

Good luck

Wouldn't bank on there being no linkage between UK and French authorities.
