It's a Facebook thing.  You write what you're doing, how you're feeling, whatever you want.  There are even sites with the funniest, most clever Facebook statuses.  Have some fun with it!

I know many of us felt the same way transitioning from USENET and mailing lists to forums. It was different and required getting used to. But over time we managed it, and wouldn't have dreamed of going back to the old text-only message boards. Give it a try and before long you'll be wondering why they didn't think of this sooner!

Agreed! Carta Postepay also comes in handy for paying with credit card on Italian sites that don't accept foreign credit cards.

You can use a Carte PostePay with PayPal without opening a regular BancoPosta account. Just need a carta d'identità- very easy to apply at the local ufficio postale. It's a rechargeable debit card that works with Visa Electron. See http://www.poste.it/bancoposta/cartedipagamento/postepay.shtml

I don't know, even content ratings have become a bone of contention. It's not always possible to prevent conflict though, so one must weigh risk versus benefit, whether the benefits of content ratings outweigh the risk of squabbles.

The death notices are posted everywhere in Italy, not only Sicily. Doesn't seem sinister to me- no more than an obituary.

Ronald's idea works for me- simple and effective. Like David and Arty I'd avoid rankings, post counts, seniority, grazies etc if possible. They add little value and provide needless opportunities for contention.
