Questions Asked

There used to be a little shop in Viterbo which sold Indian spices, basmati rice, poppadoms etc. I can't find anything about it now. Anyone know if it is still open? In bocco al lupo!

Ciao e tutti,After 13 years it has finally become necessary to drive to Italy! I suppose it was inevitable.

Ciao e tutti, The other day, on the phone, I was casting about for a good translation of "flat-out", as in driving, running etc. I ended up with the rather feeble massima potenza, or a massima velocità.

Well it is nice to be back.

I haven't been able to login or reset my password for days. I usually login automatically with my browser so it isn't "just finger trouble"

From my research so far: (ymmv) wink Used caravans in the UK are about half the price that you will find them in Italy. If you want to tow a caravan with an Italian car. It must be Italian registered & homologated with it's own number plate (targa). If you buy a van without papers, senza targa, it will be much cheaper but you might have trouble legally towing it. Unless (presumably) you use a UK car and attach a UK plate.  If you do buy an unregistered van you might have trouble getting it recognised for electricity/phone connection etc. This might not be a problem for you once you have a "registered progetto" as ENEL should connect to that. Telecoms probably won't until you have a roof! There are a few companies who advertise caravan transportation on Italian Ebay. The bi-annual revision for caravans is now unnecessary. Here are a few sites for used caravans: http://www.kijiji.it/ http://www.vallericcaparking.it/ http://www.secondamano.it/ http://www.wickedin.it/ http://www.subito.it/ http://www.trovocamper.it/ In bocca al lupo!

Providing you can get insurance you don't need to bring it back for an MOT! See http://www.italymag.co.uk/community/post/final-definitive-answer-hoary-old-car-taxmot-question If you have trouble with your current insurance company google "international motorcycle insurance" or "extended European cover" In bocca al lupo!

Ciao e tutti, It is very common. This happened on my last 2 SIM cards. My current TIM card is registered in the name of a Canadian tourist! The shop just uses some convenient details in order to quickly sell the card. If you have ever bought one from a shop where they do it correctly then you can see why. The process takes about half a hour & involves copying passports, sending off CF's etc. Practically impossible in a busy shop! A similar thing is happening in (free) Internet caffé. You are supposed to register & book in and out with i.d. but generally speaking this is being fudged & the vigili are not insisting anymore. By the way I don't have a problem accessing my account online. You will just get an SMS code to use to show you actually have the SIM card. I can't top-up with a U.K. credit card though!! A good tip is to buy a recharge card in Italy & use that to top-up in England, if you are getting low, or you haven't used your SIM for a while. You can buy them online. Just Google RICARICard.  The Ricaricard also expires - the date is on the back. So use it & buy another one before that. If your cell phone is not used for a set length of time (6 months, I think), your SIM card expires. If the SIM card expires, you loose any residual credit. You must purchase a new one (and get a new phone number). Pip pip wink

It's kinda difficult though to mention it if you can't get on it, wink I read 'em both.  The only way I got registered there was to PM someone whose name I had seen on both sites. In Bocca al lupo!

I used http://www.smartcurrencyexchange.com/ But it is always worth ringing round first to see what you get offered & then you can ask them to beat your best quote. I found the advantage of this lot is that you have a relationship with a real person & after the main transfer you can subsequently get a good rate if you have to transfer smaller amounts. Once you are set up everything is done with a phone call so you can watch the rates & react quickly. wink Pip pip
