I'm pretty convinced that porcupine is a protected species, but as you know when you get out into the wilds / backwoods etc there's always some traditions that die hard. We were guests of Colleferro Rugby, and one of our hosts was; to say the least; a bit of a risky character (sadly he's no longer with us...)He specialised in demonstarting his 'riskiness' and one evening took us to the back of beyond for dinner in what appeared to be a shack in the hills. It turned out to be a sort of trattoria for locals, and we ate both porcupine and young deer, again out of season but when you're in the sticks...These are traditions and habits that you'll only ever discover (that's if you even want to) by being involved in local life, and knowing someone like our sadly departed friend.I'm also told that in some parts of Italy porcupines are considered a pest, and can destroy a garden overnight. Each to their own...
Just to remind you, in view of the above thread, not to leave any cheese out. Could be a matter of 'Loaf and Death'. Sure it wasn't a Were-Rabbit?
Guys, if you think the soccer gang did well, you have another treat in store if you have italian Sky. Italy play New Zealand All Blacks on Saturday after doing really well (?) against Australia (vs. Oz 1st team they went down 31-8) and a week later against an experimental Australian team 34-12. Fair to say that coach Nick Mallett made some very brave changes in the second game to give some of the youngsters in the squad a run, as did the Oz coach Robbie Deans. The usual comments (we're rebuilding; we lack depth of experienced players etc) were all to the fore. At least Mallett has found a new player (non Italian) in Gower, a 30 some year old who has only played Union for 3/4 years; played League before, and plys his trade in France! What a state of affairs! Still; looking forward to Saturday's game. Last time Italy played the All Blacks they turned their back on the Haka, and during the game one or two of the Italian team left the pitch horizontal!Happy days....
If you live near Colleferro just south of Rome, you can find small trattorias that serve roasted porcupine. Bit tough and gamey, but you're never short of a toothpick.
I've also managed to let Giorgio Cluni know about the rearranged date...
there's a small motel just off the autostrada at Lodi if that's any help.
