I am fast approaching the need to renew my driving licence as it is due to expire this mid year.
I have a regular sum of money sent over from the UK every month. This month however the money left my UK account and has yet to arrive here in Italy (Banca della Marche).
I saw this comment from a Californian news item............Emerging Cuisines from Emerging Markets - As the world grows smaller, the selection of cuisines grows larger and guests’ palettes are begging to try new flavours.
It will take a quite monumental event to prise us from our wonderful life and friends here. BUT,................. what/where is the future for the younger generation here ?
Being a full time resident here in Italy, we are having a month or so on holiday in another EU country (not in the UK, our country of origin). Does anybody know what 'travel' related health cover are we 'entitled' to ?
I'm sure someone here will advise (hopefully)............I have some 30/40 false acacia trees (the ones with the spikes - ouch !), they have grown in the last 5 years to some 15/20metres high.
"Mr Berlusconi told Italian television: "Life in Italy is good. The restaurants are full. It's difficult to get a seat on a plane they're so busy; holidays are all booked up."There you go then, no financial crisis here !?S

If the house was prima casa (in the world !), would that therefore mean the same if we went (back) to the UK ( primary residence), so therefore maybe also zero CGT ? Mr Osbourne is my 'local' MP back in blighty and, the way these MPs APPARENTLY work (ha !)...........I'm sure we can come to some arrangement. S
My memory is REALLY awful (and getting worse !!). S
Yes, should have made myself clear(er)....... I am referring to Italian CGT. so the 20% is good news indeed ! And it is our prima casa and yes we have lived in it for more than 2 1/2 years. That suggests therefore ZERO CGT (Wow!!)............So..... IF we bought a property at say 200k(as per the deeds), and sold at say 300k 2years 8months later (100k 'profit'), we would have ZERO CGT to pay?........ If we then left Italy completely we would take with us 300k in effect? I hadn't heard about the 2.5 years on the prima casa Super info as always! ciao, S
What a great post...............we can all talk about the costs of this and that, but I for one am happy sharing costs with each other (a la Badger)..............that way we can all maybe at least understand the variety of costs that we all need to undertake. It is ALL personal preference anyway, the more REAL info that we have at our disposal, the better informed decision making we are likely to make?! Well done, S
I don't have any problems with advertising as such.............. PERSONAL views..................... Three years actually here in Italy........... First year.......Open Fire (as central heatins as backup)......... HARD work.................receive a lorry load of wood, stack it............(hard work).............in and out, in and out, in and out, etc etc.............................. Second year........4,000 euros for two stufas(wood burning stoves). Again SLIGHTLY less HARD work.................receive a lorry load of wood, stack it............(hard work).............in and out, in and out, in and out, etc etc.............................. Third year (this year - oor-err!)................HARD work.................receive a lorry load of wood, stack it............(hard work...............but save it).............BUT.................focus on gas central heating..........expensive but EASY, ZERO smoke, flick of a switch for the boiler...............watch this space!(gulp!!) Caio e buona foruna, S
Mick.............. Great news for you...it is wonderful here and you will get LOTS of good (and some you may not welcome so much as it may be not necessarily through rose tinted spectacles! - but still valid) advice here.....I think that your main customers will be English as Italians tend not to travel quite so much as other nationalities and when they do go for it, they tend to lean towards their own nationalities services............ Good luck and keep us posted! Ciao ! S
Why oh why not use the Internet £5 per month at https://www.my-private-network.co.uk/ There are other suppliers...............BBC1,2 etc, ITV 1,2,3,4 etc Ch4, Ch5............ S
Listen.............three little words.....................DO THE LOT.......... another one................(ten little two letter words....................) "if it is to be, it is up to me.............." (an old golfing saying.................) just do it! S
We had similar issues 2 years ago, ended up getting a 'professional' in to do the whole house. We went off to Bologna and Numana for four days and left the professionals to it. When we came back, my gawd.............the fumes the fumes...........it probably took another three days to clear the house properly. They did a great job, every beam in the house hit hard with pressurised 'killer stuff' (!)'............no sign of anything since...........cost about 2,000euros if I recall. well worth it in my view. I suspect that we will have it done every 3 to 5 years..........the price of living here eh !? S
Toughen up folks.......have another glass of vino, and, (as I) drink Birra Moretti, that seems to help Ha! S
