Hi all, I am trying to get the Ascoli Piceno ASUR13 to clarify the position regarding healthcare rights for permanent residents who are EU citizens. Currently, their ruling is that we may only have registration for 12 months at a time and that thi

My final recommendation for mountain restaurants (at least for the moment) is La Cittadella, again in Montemonaco. A wonderful mountain retreat with a pool with probably the best view in Marche!

Another lovely restaurant in the mountains. For good, hearty mountain food this is really excellent. We ate some of the best prosciutto I have ever eaten here, followed by cinghiale in Vernaccia with pappardelle - delicious!

I know this was on the old forum but I thought it was worth mentioning again. The restaurant Il Tiglio in Isola San Biagio (just outside Montemonaco) is something very different to the other restaurants in this area.

During my search for a document to take to the anagrafe office to shame the chap into giving me my permanent residency certificate, I found the state decree and subsequent circulars pertaining to the new (2007) residency laws.

Sorry, don't know if they sell Mac's but www.laptopsdirect.co.uk ship to Italy. I have bought 2 laptops from them and had them delivered here. You will need to buy from a UK company if you want the OS (Windows or Mac) in English. Be careful about installing a different OS during the laptop warranty period as it often invalidates the warranty.

I don't know if it is because you are referring to "foreigners" bank accounts and I am resident but I pay €3.60 a month which includes all my transactions and internet banking. I pay €3 to transfer money to the UK and don't pay to receive Euros from the UK. I think you really need to shop around to get a good deal. BNL currently have a "zero spese" account where you don't pay anything. We all have to pay the quarterly tax on the bank account but I pay very little bank charges.

Plenty of the beach chalets get lively around aperitivo time and have a DJ and a buffet etc. It tempts all the beautiful people out which is great for people watching. Then everything goes quiet until around 10pm again (for dinner) then it all starts up again slowly until about 6am. Be careful - Nightclubs are usually lap dancing/strip clubs whilst Discos are the regular disco thing. Very little drinking goes on and most people drive. I don't think there would be too many 14 year-olds there though. Teenagers are a bit more sophisticated in London wink

I can recommend Charlotte Oliver (solicitor) who posts on here. I know lots of other people on the forum have used her.

How about a Endless Pool? It is a lap pool with a counter current for swimming. Big enough to splash in but small enough to heat if you wanted too. You can also have it lit & with jacuzzi jets. It is a kit so can be dismantled and moved to another property if you ever moved and can be fully in ground, partially in ground or above ground. They cost around €20,000 - €25,000.

I have found the trick to the sausages is to cook them the way I was told by a lovely restaurant at Fiastra.

  1. Get a frying pan/saute pan with a lid
  2. Fill it with 1 inch of water and bring it to the boil
  3. Put your sausages in and the lid on and turn it down to gently bubble away
  4. Once they are "steamed", pop them in a griddle pan or under the grill to brown

Yummy and they are never salty or fatty as you have steamed it all out.

We did this a couple of years ago. The service is OK but getting off at Hoek van Holland was horrendous. You are straight onto a single lane road absolutely full of lorries. It took us 2 hours to get onto a motorway where we could put our foot down. It was very slow. Also,  there are no facilities at Harwich at night - not even a toilet. So the waiting was pretty grim. We wouldn't do it again to be honest. We've done Hull to Zeebrugge a few times when coming over from Yorkshire and that is great. Fast on and off. If I was coming over from the South East I would use Eurotunnel personally as it is so quick and easy and the Calaia ferries are so filthy and packed. Just my personal preference of course!
