There is a young Setter which has been living in a barn nearby since the beginning of Feb, dumped by hunters we think, he's about 2.  I know I shouldn’t have fed him but he was getting very thin and none of our neighbours would do anything, now the weather is getting better it is turning out to be a bit of a nightmare.  Our dog has come 'into contact' with him a couple of times and we were forced to part them (the setter is extremely timid and didn't fight back).  He didn’t sustain any injuries and now he sits on our doorstep constantly, he must be desperate as he knows our dog would probably cause him serious damage.   Our dog is now virtually a prisoner in his own home, we have a muzzle which we have to use, but it’s really not practical there are no fences here so we cannot let him out.  Is there anyone out there who is looking for a beautiful dog or knows of anyone, I’m sure a he would make a good hunting dog, but he’s so gentle and friendly that he would make a lovely pet, I’d hate the thought of him being caged or chained up all day but I’m getting desperate now. He’s a white and red (ginger) setter around 2 year’s old, lovely nature, affectionate and doesn’t eat much; I have some lovely pictures of him too.  We are in the Civitella  M.R, Fara, Casoli area. Please, please, please, is there’s anyone out there who can help?

I would agree with Gromit, Eurotunnel is the best way to go, I know the drving will be long but it's worth it for both you and your dog.  We took our previous two other dogs to Ireland on the ferry once, I was so worried about them (on the very short crossing) I was sick all the way.  When we got back to the car they were both having a great time sitting on the front seats watching everyone !  Typical ED

I know how you feel and I'm sure others do to. After living her for a year now we've still got buckets in the roof and plastic sheeting for doors inside, but slowly does it.  Stick it out, be brave, it will be worth it.  This time next year you will look back and think how much better things are compared to now, it's good for the soul. Take things one day at a time, perhaps just have one small goal per day, its great to achieve something however small.  You will always find kind people here who will help you out, just ask, even if you think it sounds stupid, there's always someone here to help.  Good luck, keep going.  Ed

Thanks to everyone for the advice.....being rather nieve I thought that all ICN trains had couchettes as described on the website, but thinking about it they would need an awfull lot of them wouldn't they ? I'll try not to be so dense in the future !

What a lovely man !  I think he's a little upset, what a shame,. I hope it's the idiot who insists on driving his large four wheel drive over the back of my garden because its a right of way (on foot I must add) .

In the past we fell into the trap of getting someone English to do the work because it's easier, we didn't speak the Italain and thought that it would be safer, but we were always left feeling that it could have been done better. My advice would be if it isn't urgent ask around and go out and meet local tradesmen. Since doing this we've had some great work done and only wished we hadn't been so nervous earlier.  We've also had a laugh with the locals and made new friends.  Just make sure you take your dictonary with you and you'll be fine, they will need to come and look at the job so they will soon see what needs doing. Good luck

We didn't give up our insurance, but wished we had of done because our vet wouldn't fill out the forms! We brought our 2 dogs over last year and all I can say is like Angie, find yourself a vet you are happy with before you need them.  We didn't and that was a big and costly mistake.  Ask around in your area and see who others recommend, no doubt there will be differences of opinion but some choice is better than no choice.Good luck Ed

EHIC as I'm sure you know covers 'National Health' equivalent treatment.  If you are happy with that and healthy there isn't a problem, the major difference it doesn't cover you for repatriation.  If you check the Internet there is a company called EHIC plus who cover the bits that the EHIC doesn't, it's kind of a bolt on.  This makes it cheaper and  you get sufficient cover.  My parents used it this year.  Both have heart problems and over 65 they had a really good price (sorry can't remember how much)
