I have just bought Philly to make a topping for a cake, and sadly did not taste it before adding icing sugar etc. It is not the same recipe as the English pack but instead is a savoury sauce!
We usually travel by bus to Florence as it is quite economical for 2 people, but have friends visiting in a weeks time who may prefer to drive there.

Having enjoyed an abundance of delicious "Fiorentino" tomatoes all summer from 4 plants, the first ground frost has arrived in Casentino Alto, and I have now lots of green tomatoes. My day yesterday was a chutney one and I made 3 batches.
I thought I would share my experience of registering our car from the UK.
I have been invited to my neighbours for a BBQ. Is it ettiquette in Italy to take something? I was thinking of making an English pud - a Bakewell tart, but don't know if it is the OK thing to do.

I have had recent experience of an Italian will. You need an Italian will if you are a resident. It is hand written in italian, not witnessed as in Uk, and under Italian law property is left thus - half to surviving spouse and equal amounts to children. It is not written by the notaio until after death. My father-in-law left a handwritten copy with the notaio, but that is not normal practice. He also had property in UK which we thought was a separate item, but domicile in Italy is only accepted by the UK tax office if the estate is less that UK inheritance tax level. The Italian side of the business has been completed. The UK side is still in motion after 9 months!
We used this company too, until we got Italian number plates, with no problems. I would recommend them too. Rosietat
I have asthma and receive free medicines for that condition in Italy, once signed on with a doctor and with the Tessera Sanitaria. I also received free treatment using my European Health Card from the UK. However they do not have the exact same medicines here that I was taking in the Uk so I have to adjust the doses slightly. In UK I paid a prescription charge for each medicine - over £35 per month - as I am not receiving my pension yet, so in that respect it is good. When I had an infected insect bite the antibiotics were free but I had to pay for the cream. Although this is my experience here in Toscana, I think the health rules may differ in other regions. http://www.smithgcb.demon.co.uk/pp_inher.htm According to this link, Inheritance tax only applies to larger amounts than the value of you mother's house, and you would only pay the property transfer fees (Imposta Ipotecaria at 2%, and Imposta Catastale at 1%) Rosietat
Hi Penny, We are about to leave UK with our LHD Fiat Panda which we bought here and need to register it within 6 months. Could you tell me how you went about the process of converting to an Italian registration?
I pay 55 euro every 2 months with e-light bill. This runs hot water, 2 radiators during the winter and I cook with woodburnig stufa in the winter and electric oven in the summer, have a large wood burner and a pellet fire. Pellets 250euro, wood 300 euro. The house costs about the same as we paid in UK. How can someone's bill be over 4,000 euro?
I I have had a pellet fire insert installed in a sitting room, which makes quite a lot of noise when the fan is running and I am glad it is not in my main sitting room. It is very warm and there is really no mess. My neighbour has had a stufa -pellet for her central heating and water from the same firm and her radiators are instantly hot. There is a flame but the stufa is definately not so attractive. This is the make - http://www.ecoteck.it/english/portale.php
My bougainvillea did not survive last winter - Casentino 500m altitude - but there is usually a cold wind here. I think it survives in towns and villages because of the micro climate, but definately not a windy hill.Rosietat
Actually all the guests brought a dessert and my bakewell (which as it did not come directly from Bakewell was a tart and not THE pudding) was most welcome.. No one brought house plants, and many of the cakes were from the baker. Since the temperature is over 30, truffles would not survive.Interesting how peoples thoughts differ!
They always check my small wheeled suitcase at Pisa when I go back to the UK, when I usually have next to noyhing in it, but never seen to weigh the huge holdalls that people have. These holdalls are obviously much bigger than the dimensions they give on the website, and it always annoys me that my bag is smaller than the average, but is always weighed!I am worried that the plane will be top heavy as so many people have hand luggage and if the hold is empty.....????!!
