Just outside Termini station is the bus station. You won't cover Rome in one trip. I thought paying for the open top tour bus would be an extravigance. Hovever, it was money well spent as traipsing around can be tiring. It lasts for 24 hours and we were able to cover lots of places we would not have done on foot. You can get off and on where you choose. It made the trip very relaxing and not at all stressed. We went last October. The weather was perfect, not too hot. Rome was amazingly not teeming with people so we had no queues. A living museum so the whole experience is wonderful.
Don't worry Coseperlacasa, many of us have inadverdently made mistakes. It is quite hard to know about the specifics of 'no advertising' as I notice that lots of websites seem to be acceptable and videos etc. Or have I got this wrong/
I agree Gareth. I hardly ever take a full lunch hour. Iam just a number and a machine and if all goes pear-shaped, we will bw gone and forgotten in the pursuit of profit. Long live long lunch hours. If we move abroad, it is us who should adjust. But the beaurocracy does drive you mad because the nepotism is not just about jobs but who gets served first as well!!
I read somewhere that in Mussolini's time, he was trying to make more jobs even through impoverished times. He also wanted to give some motivation to people. He decreed that statale jobs came with a working lifetime decree. It may even be constitutional, I don't know. Perhaps that is why in some parts ( all) of Italy, staff are in no hurry to modernise and cut out bureaucracy. On the other hand the EU wants Spain and Italy etc to let go of their long lunch hours and become more like UK, France, Germany etc. in order to take advantage of the economic opportunities. In a moment of madness, for a split second, I thought that this might be a good idea. However, I now know that Spain and Italy are much smarter than us. because if we are not careful we will all be Europian clones if they get their way. That would mean that the cultures that we love will eventually disappear ( like ours), so many regulations that you will be charged for breathing - sorry, we already are. Also all the hype, modern practices and slickness and long hours did not stop the economy collapsing as we had all gone to far. The higher we went the harder we fell. On second thought I think we should leave things the way they are
Her in the north of Scotland, we are having the same weather as Janj. After the very long winter ( which lasted until May), I am very jealous of Sprostoni!
Hi Patz, Sorry that I cannot help you with your Crawlies as have no clue what it could be. I was on holiday in Arsita, in Abruzzo last year in a village house. There were loads of very large greyish coloured oval, humped, beatle-type insects at the house. If you opened the windows before going off for the day they would be on and in the folds of the voile curtains when we returned in the afternoons. They would crawl very slowly and were often static ( as though sleeping). Also at any time during the day, if we went out to sit on the balcony at the patio set, I had to send my friend out to get lots of them of the parasol every time. They were large and scary looking but I never found out what they were. Any ideas anybody? I hope that this is not the norm as far as creepies go. What else is there that we need to be aware off and how to prevent/get rid?

Thanks for that Mark. I shall look up the keyhole next time I am in Rome. I have never heard of that. Also sound advice about booking the hotel.

Hi Penny, I don't live in Italy but will gladly join your campaign. Is there a website or anything?

Hi Karen, that's great. Where in Spain was your house? I hope you enjoy your new home in Basilicata.
