Where do I begin.................We find ourselves exactly where we didn't expect to or want to be.
HI All, Just joined the site and went straight to this group as we're planning on moving to Liguria. So wanted to say hello......

Are you daring to suggest not buying Heinz Baked Beans???? We're not living there yet so it's not something I've looked to buy but have them at home in the UK as a permanet fixture in the cupboard - I'm taking it they must be expensive? Will have to pack them in my case when I'm flying to and fro.............along with sun tan lotion which everyone keeps saying is really expensive too!
Looking forward to receiving some great tips as living frugally is something that doesn't come easily to me! I despise the cold and love going to bars and restaurants - so not doing very well so far!!! Bit like school - could do better!
It's not dead............but somewhat dormant for all the reasons that people have mentioned above. I've had some really useful infomation from some really helpful people who I'm eternally grateful to - bizarre that the majority of the people I'll never get to meet in person and thank. One or two people I have met and will continue to meet - so not only has this forum been useful but an opportunity to make new friends in the flesh (so to speak!!) However what you've seen playout before you is what sometimes happens on these forums - why I have no idea! On the whole I tend to ignore it and bite my tongue as I can't believe what people say in the written word they would dream of saying to someone face to face ie when it becomes abusive. I wouldn't participate in something like that in the real world so don't on a forum. I'm very comfortable speaking my mind but not to abuse someone - I'm more than happy to hold and voice a different view but if it's not going to be constructively received then I often don't as the thread loses its focus and spirals down till we get to rock bottom So on that cheery note - I'm in the UK at the moment with my central heating on - how crap is that!!! Looking forward to being back in Italy - 7 weeks till then - so hopefully you'll keep the sun shining for when I'm there as I'm loooking like a rusty Caspar at the moment (Caspar is a cartoon ghost!!)
We remortgaged on our current home with First Direct in order to buy over in Italy - it was really straightforward (as is most things when it comes to banking with First Direct) I think it's a million dollar/euro/lira question as to what will happen with the currency if things do go pear shaped - fingers crossed it doesn't come to that
7 euros Badger? I thought at first you must have left off a 0 somewhere but am guessing not...........it will cost at least 10 times more to process your payment - totally bizarre!
Hmmmmmmm................the exact same dissing of Italy word for word can be found on another forum - or more like monologue..........if Italy isn't for you then go somewhere else.....................
Likewise here it's the same as Ram - every variation comes at a cost and involves a wait of who knows how long - and the possiblilty of a NO. If you have any question marks about what you want the final plans to look like, then I would wait and keep redoing them before you submit them to your commune. We've just submitted our plans to the commune 5 months after we signed for our house - with several variations going backwardsa and forwards on email to our architect. It may well be when it comes to the build we change our mind about something but we're hoping not!!
Here's another one for you Maria - I think you're going to be spoilt for choice. Priscilla Worsley at http://www.charismaitaly.co.uk/ She organises weddings specifically around Lucca
LOL Bunter Boy :) Maria I've had 3 recommendations from people who personally know the people listed below - one of which is also Jackie Bradshaw at www.marrymeintuscany. Another is Sarah Louise Carter who lives in Lucca and organises a whole host of events www.poppies.it/eng And the third one is Bonnie Marie www.myweddingsandmore.com These should keep you busy:) Any more and I'll let you know
It would have been a very small world if it had been one and the same. The person who does this blog below I'm fairly sure does wedding planning - or if not will know someone who does :- www.bellavitaitalia.blogspot.com I've just emailed the Maria I know to see how she's getting on and if she's found anyone yet I've also just made a couple of other enquiries so will post back as soon as I hear anything
