I too was interested in this product but the only information I could find was produced by the manufacturer, Thermal Technology, and I couldn't find anything from customers, satisfied or not. My plumber investigated and suspects that the product is a 'bufala'. Be that as it may, I have decided on an electric water heater that incorporates an air/water  heat pump - info in English here: http://www.likeonline.it/prodotti.tab.aspx?idProd=53

My understanding is that if you are paying tax in Italy, you can claim 36% of building restoration costs as a tax deduction, up to a maximum, as already stated, of 48,000 euro over ten years. The IVA on the building works and materials is reduced to 10% (tax payer or not, I think). Payments must be made by bank transfer and the causale of the transfer must state the codice fiscale of the person making the payment and the codice fiscale or partita IVA of the recipient. You can go to the bank or Bancoposta and have the payment made using the form 'Ordine di Postagiro - Bonifico per detrazioni fiscali'. It appears from reading the info on the Agenzia della Entrate site, that you could make the payment by online banking as a normal bonifico as long as the above information is included in the causale. I doubt that I earn enough to take advantage of the full amount of the deduction, but nonetheless I'm making payments on my restoration project in the above manner and giving copies to my accountant in the hope that she'll be able to get some tax relief for me. There's much more to this than I have stated - full details are on the Agenzia delle Entrate site http://www.agenziaentrate.gov.it/wps/content/Nsilib/Nsi/Home/CosaDeviFare/Richiedere/Agevolazioni/DetrRistrEdil36/SchInfoDetrRistrEdil36/ Warning - I am hopeless with financial matters so check with an expert as I could well be mistaken!

Buy a good quality, energy efficient model and use it intelligently - the togliapieghe cycle takes under 10 minutes after which sheets, tablecloths etc will be soft and barely wrinkled so they can be folded and line-dryed, needing little or no ironing - on cold, damp days when laundry takes forever to dry, put towels, t-shirts, jeans etc in for 15 - 30 minutes then hang out. And when it's wet and you have sick children, or you are exhausted, or clean sports gear is urgently needed, use the dryer! You could always ease your conscience by locking up the hairdryer, or the toaster, or the kettle that day to offset the consumption.

I hadn't seen Alan H's post when I was writing

I have survived with 3kw for years but it drives me mad - I put on the washing machine and my wife doesn't realise and turns on the kettle or the oven, and the power cuts out and I lose any unsaved documents on my PC . . . If you rent out your apartment, you can't really expect your tenants to synchronise their laundry/cooking etc with yours. Why not put in 3kw for the apartment and a separate 6kw for the main house? Or if two sets of standing charges, connection fees etc are too expensive, have a single supply of 12kw. You can offset some of the cost by getting into the habit of running appliances in the off-peak hours. If anyone out there is clever enough to understand ENEL's deliberately unintelligible charges, I would be interested to know how much extra it costs for the electricity used, as an example, to run the washing machine, dishwasher and oven on a supply that allows them to be used at the same time, as compared to running them one at a time on a 3kw supply.

Unopiu has a wide range, good quality, not cheap though. Have ordered a couple of times through their website and delivery was efficient. The website isn't especially easy to navigate but you can order a catalogue from the site, leaf through that and then order via the website - www.unopiu.it. I had the task of restoring a dozen of their metal frame and wood slat chairs which had been exposed to the weather for several years. They were still in good condition and in unscrewing, sanding, refinishing and reassembling the chairs I could see they were well made and the timber quality was good - they looked new again once finished.

Grape juice is no substitute for wine. Why is it so difficult to understand that someone who doesn't want alcohol may still enjoy the flavour of wine with a meal? The Winezero products look interesting - thanks for researching and providing the link Qui Gia.

I haven't seen alcohol-free wine but I'd be very interested to know if it is available. Normally to avoid being made to feel a water-drinking killjoy in social situations, we take along the non-alcoholic aperative drinks that come in little bottles like Campari and zero alcohol beer, which is now easily found. But the little bottled drinks are, I'm sure, very high in sugar so it would be good to find an alternative. I would be interested in other opinions about Italian attitudes to wine - my impression is that many of my Italian friends drink very moderately and some don't drink at all and they are in fact more accepting of non-drinkers than my non-Italian friends. I get fed up when my choosing not to drink is taken as a criticism of those who do drink and I am made to feel that I'm spoiling their fun - it's simply my choice because alcohol disagrees with me but I think that wine is a gift of god that enhances meals and conviviality and I'm envious of those who can enjoy it. Sorry to rant - feel much better now!

I think it is well worth asking a geometra - they often know of properties that might be for sale. I found my house through a local geometra who knew what I was looking for. Often locals contact him when they have a place to sell, in preference to talking to an agent.
