Tactics for Cheap Air Travel

When booking flights via Ryanair, I found that departure from some airports are cheaper than the others. I'm going back to the UK next week and the cheapest flight from Ancona (single/one-way) is about €200 excluding taxes. Found one in Rimini to East Midlands for €99. Good thing I'm going to Yorkshire so bus fare is only £9 via National Express. Last month, it cost me £35 for single flight via RyanAir from Ancona, then a further £11 (yes, £11) for a Megatrain fare from London to Sheffield. Travel time of 2 hours 20mins, with 4 stops. I highly recommend Megatrain and Megabus only because if you book early enough, you could get a fare for £1 plus 50p booking fee. Megabus is getting better as the buses are from Stagecoach and are new. They don't have their own trains but they buy off seats from major trains like Cross-country (formerly Virgin), Midland Mainline, etc. Anyway, as ever, the fares are cheaper when booked in advance. Happy travelling... Joy

If you are renting a car it also pays to check the cost of these at different airports. I often pay extra on the flight to a different airport to take advantage of cheaper car hire. Does mean that it can take me all day to book a flight thoughsad   Mark
