Hello.I have been a follower of the magazine and the website for several years.I am now close to retirement and am looking to buy a very NOT expensive property to renovate as a project.I wouldl like to find a wonderful town with beauty, cafes and shops. I am looking at the areas now of less expensive Umbria and a an area that I have recently discoverd that is south of Rome, Ciociaria. Can anyone suggest the name of a town or towns where I should concentrate my search?Any advice is appreciate.Thanks.Kim

Hi,We live in Immoglie - a small village near Picinisco.  A1 (E45) - autostrada from Rome to Naples - leave halfway (1 hour) at Cassino then 30 mins more up into the mountains. Still 1 euro for coffee; 4 euros for large pizza. Everything cheaper including property. Few tourists.  Would recommend Picinisco (1,250 pop), or the larger town of Villa Latina (1,250 pop) or the even larger town of Atina (4,500 pop).  The best views are from Picinisco and the villages around.  Regards, Alan and Carole  -  alan.haworth@virgin.net.

Hello,My family is from Savignano, Irpino just outside Avellino. It's a great hill top town and prices are much cheaper. It's between Naples & Foggia. I think it's a good central location and every summer there's the Sant Annas festival. July 23rd to August 24thIm going this June to Savignano to look for my own flat to buy and restore. Good luck to you!Tina  tderienzo@yahoo.comCiao

Hi Kim,Thanks for following the magazine over the years.  We will try to answer your question. With the name Ciociaria we usually mean an area of Lazio which mostly concides with the province of Frosinone. Searching for properties in the Frosinone area might be easier over the net than using the word Ciociaria.  Among the towns in the area Fiuggi, Fumone, Ferentino, Alatri,Ceccano, Torrice, Veroli.    Hope this helps.Katia

You might like to try the are around The Lazio/marche/umbria/abruzzo borders, beautiful area, and some very cheap properties, Main towns include, Amatrice (lazio) Acquasanta terme (marche) Arquata del tronto (marche) Norcia (Umbria) Abruzzo in that area is probably a bit "wilder", but I know of someone who bought a property (3 bed 2 baths) to renovate for less than €20,000, Do have the property inspected however, wherever you decide to buy, before you buy.....
