We bought our car out in July and the mot runs out soon.Plan to take it back to the UK around October 2018.
As long as you have it booked in for an mot the day you arrive back in the Uk you'll be fine.
By the way who have you got your car insurance with?

Hi , no car insurance yet , we have been offered the car from people who are moving away from Italy , the cars MOT has run out and they did not know if it needed testing in some way whilst out in italy ! No plans to bring it back to the uk , do you need any roadworthy test out here ?Any suggestions as to who to insure through ?thanks

Assuming you are resident then you need to transfer the car onto Italian plates immediately, with all that entails.
