Just tasted the latest batch of our home made orange liqueur, absolutely fantastic, bright , bright,  orange (just like tartrasine ho ho! But all natural)  and  with a real sweet clout at 45%.!!! I see a new career unfolding:  and zee bitter virtues......

Just like limoncello really. Soak the zest of ten oranges in 1 litre of pure alcohol ( 95%) for a few weeks - we leave it for 10 or so due to logistical issues. Decant the flavoured spirit . Dissolve half a kilo of sugar in 1litre of warm water (on the stove) to make a syrup. Once cooled , mix the syrup with the spirit ( dilute a little further  if necessary).  Bottle and chill. Hey Presto!

Like bunterboy I use the same recipe, which works with any Citrus fruit. I've made Limoncello for years using those quantities (about 10 lemons or Oranges or 15 or so limes), you just play around with the zest quantity until it looks right (yellow, orange or green for Limes). You can also pick the Wild Strawberries and soak in the same way which make a beautiful Liqueur. Have fun making your own recipe up with any berries. The only thing that doesn't work is bananna; well it's a spice afterall.

I thought that the recipe would be a similar one to Limoncello. By the way, my neighbour just gave me a bottle of a new batch her mother-in-law (over 90 years of age, God bless her!) just made. Delicious... but deadly.... It may be the recipe from the fountain of youth!!!!!
