Thanks for this information. I have recently become interested in reading about the Gottica Line and the part played by the partisans and the American Buffalo Soldiers. This was prompted by the film Miracle at Saint Anna, a Spike Lee film, based on an actual event at St Anna near Pietrasanta.The film was made in a very interesting small village called Colognora, which has hardly changed over the years, not far from Bagni di Lucca. Colognora was an excellent choice as a set for the film. It is a most interesting village and an "isola linguistica". They speak a dialect that originated in the Longobard language. Everything moves very slowly there! 

Tonya, If you are interested in the Gothic Line you might like to know that a cycle tour guide was published last year, 70 odd pages and CD by Doriano Pela and Andrea Meschini. Where we live in Italy, the extreme East of Tuscany, there are still plenty of signs of the defences along the mountain ridges
