The controversy over Pius XII regards his wartime role and not his beatification, Israeli Ambassador to the Holy See Mordechai Lewy told ANSA Thursday.
The historical facts about Pius's actions during the Second World War will only be fully clarified when the Vatican opens its archives on those years, Lewy said.
The ambassador said the pope was welcome to visit Israel and it was up to him to decide when to come.
As for Pius's beatification, that was an internal issue for the Catholic Church, Lewy said.
