Inter may seek defender

Inter Milan may go back onto the transfer market in search of a central defender after Marco Materazzi's injury in the Tim Trophy Tuesday night, Chairman Massimo Moratti said Wednesday.

''We'll decide over the next few days whether to return to the market or not,'' said Moratti, who declared the Italian champion's transfer campaign closed with the arrival of Sulley Muntari from Portsmouth at the weekend.

''We're all right in midfield and in attack. The only problem we have is in defence,'' said Moratti.

The extent of Materazzi's injury is as yet unknown.

His knock aggravated the woes of a department which is already missing Walter Samuel, Ivan Cordoba and Christian Chivu.

Muntari came to Milan as a last-minute consolation prize after Inter's hopes of luring Frank Lampard from Chelsea foundered.

He did well on his debut in the triangular tournament on Tuesday evening where AC Milan ran out winners on penalties against Inter but Juventus were arguably the most impressive of the three giants on show.

The scorers in the three 45-minute games were David Trezeguet, Marco Marchionni and Vincenzo Iaquinta for Juve and Clarence Seedorf (two) for Milan.

Milan drew 2-2 with Juve and won the penalty shoot-out; Juve beat Inter 1-0; and Milan drew 0-0 with Inter before winning another shoot-out.
