Italian lottery jackpot stands at 115.9 million

Italians are going lottery-crazy with people that have never considered taking part standing in rather disorderly queues outside of shops waiting to choose their six numbers.

There has been no winner since the end of January, a record 78 consecutive draws, and that has made the SuperEnalotto prize the second-highest ever in Europe (Spain holds the record of the highest ever with 126 million).

Even politicians are in on the game with some towns buying a ticket in the hope to fix their budget problems.

The last weekend Italians bet 55.4 million Euros but no-one managed to get the right combination so all eyes are set on Tuesday's draw.

In the first seven months of the year, the game raked in more than 1.7 billion euros, which meant the state earned some 850 million euros, far more than the 500 million euros it received in 2008.
