Juve wants Nedved on staff

Juventus wants former star Pavel Nedved to join its technical staff, Chairman Giovanni Cobolli Gigli said Wednesday.

The former Czech midfielder, European Footballer of the Year in 2003, ended his Juve playing career at the end of last season after eight years with the Turin club.

At the time he said he was retiring but has since been tentatively linked to ex-club Lazio, newly promoted Parma, or Major League Soccer in the United States.

''When the season ended Pavel said he was hanging up his boots but his agent is a persuasive man,'' Cobolli Gigli said.

''But if he came (back) to Juventus we would all be happy to have him on the technical staff.

''I don't think it will be possible to see him back on the field''.

Nedved, who will be 37 on August 30, played 244 times for Juve between 2001 and 2009, scoring 51 goals and picking up the Serie A title in 2002 and 2003.

Nedved's Juve also won the scudetto in 2005 and 2006 but the titles were revoked because of the Calciopoli match-fixing scandal.

He won 91 international caps between 1994 and 2006, scoring 18 goals.
