More than two million people attended events presided by Pope Benedict XVI this year, the Vatican press office said on Monday.
The overall figure of 2,215,000 takes into account only faithful in attendance at events at the Vatican and the pope's summer residence at Castel Gandolfo, outside Rome.
It does not include those present during his visits in Italy or abroad, the press office said.
Some eight million pilgrims visited the Vatican during the Holy Year in 2000, one of the highest figures ever recorded for a single year.
