Jose' Mourinho on Monday got Riccardo Quaresma, the winger he wanted to boost Inter Milan's bid for a fourth straight title.
Porto winger Quaresma, 24, joined Inter for 18.6 million euros plus Portuguese midfielder Pele', valued at six million, on the last day of the transfer season.
Quaresma, who scored 28 goals in 114 appearances for Porto and has scored three times in 23 games for Portugal, has been likened by some to Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ex-Chelsea boss Mourinho has insisted he needs the winger to play his favoured three-man attack.
Inter stuttered to create chances at Sampdoria on Sunday and had to settle for a 1-1 draw.
The other three members of Italian soccer's Big Four, AC Milan, Roma and Juventus, also did less well than expected.
Roma were pegged to a 1-1 draw at home to Napoli, Juventus drew 1-1 at Fiorentina and Milan went down to a shock 2-1 loss at home to newly promoted Bologna despite a fine performance from ex-Barcelona star Ronaldinho who shook off his recent rustiness to lay on several chances.
Club owner Silvio Berlusconi said Monday ''the match was unlucky but it confirmed that Ronadinho is an extraordinary player''.
The Italian premier and media mogul said that despite the loss he was happy with Milan's performance.
''Milan is the only team in the world with three players who have been European Footballer of Year, Kaka', Shevchenko and Ronaldinho, who will provide great entertainment''.
Milan had a poor season last year, failing to qualify for the Champions League.
Coach Carlo Ancelotti has been told he must win the title this year.
