Well we just can't get Jessie out of the water and to celebrate her 9 month Birthday, we went down to our lovely Lago di Ruffino for a swim!
Did anyone just feel that earth tremor at 11pm. Here near Amandola it was very strong but short, the first we have felt for a while. Hope this does not mean there is worse to come.
Had a great meal in Da Cicco in Gualdo last night. Although it was 10pm when we arrived, Michelle the lovely waitress was very helpful and friendly (she is Romanian) and spoke very good Italian and English.
The devastating earthquake that struck the region of L'Aquila on April 6th 2009 is long gone from newspaper headlines and television reports.
The Marche Chapter are holding a BBQ to raise funds for the victims of the L'Aquila earthquake on Sunday 21st June, hosted by Sarah and Mark at their home Villa Conti (please pm Sarah for directions) from 3pm.
Please can we make a list of raffle tickets bought and add them on here when we have been notified. If we can try and just keep this post for the raffle ticket listing so that it is easier to add up. Thanks.
Please can we list here any raffle prizes we have collected or are donating, so that we can all see what we have:
More raffle prizes! - Sarah who works at Cicerone, the publishers of the walking book we found, has very kindly donated a copy for our BBQ. Anyone else collected any prizes - we need as many as possible!

Friends of ours found it much cheaper to buy a LHD car in France, take it to the UK first and then when the time came they bought it over to Italy.
You said it A!!!! No we agree. Even Mark who does like salt on his food, very often finds meat far too salty especilly lamb, which is a shame as we hardly ever eat it because it is very expensive. We look forward to a treat every so often, only to find when it arrives, it is very salty. Like Gala says, maybe they are still remembering the days before we had fridges and can't get out of the old habbit. One place we have found recently which doesn't use too much salt, is Trattoria Vittoria in Santa Vittoria in Matenano and it is very cheap too!
We are also looking and asking around and a friend has just very kindly told us about Italsure who cover Uk citizens with cars permently in Italy. Their website is: www.italsure.co.uk. email: insure@italsure.co.uk We have just sent off for a quote so I will let you know as soon as I get it back but I do know car insurance is much more expensive in Italy than in the UK. Hope this helps.
Here's Jessie at 10 months - she has a new hobby - haystack jumping. Rusty's not too impressed though! Can't get the picture thingy to work will try again!
Too right Russ - who's going to suggest it to them? Flop, our adopted dog from L'Aquila still wakes up barking some nights when he feels a tremor, so goodness knows what the people living in the tents feel when another one happens. If it sounds like much of this could have been avoided, then it really is disgusting.
How interesting Anne - thanks for that. Maybe Penny knows who it was that got married on the 8th August ?
Thanks for your comments so far everyone - thought it may be tricky. They are actually from the Netherlands and for now it would be a holiday home. They prefer to try to get a mortgage here in Italy rather than back at home.
Sorry we missed the rugby Andrew - hope you had a good evening and hope to make it to the next one! Spent all afternoon/ evening in or outside Villi's shop in Ascoli. An amazing shop if you need keys cutting/ knives/ beautiful kitchen equipment etc including picnic hampers and old fashioned shaving stuff. The good news is that the key cutting man maganed to eventually get our broken bit of key out of our car ignition after several hours. Thank goodness for that - a new ignition was going to be well over £200! So if anyone gets into a similar situation - go to Villi's in Ascoli. Hopefully see you on the 23rd Andrew!
Hi John and Toni, There is a really useful discussion forum here on Lay My Hat - we exchange tips and links as there are many free listings also, some of which are good and some a total waste of your time filling in all your details! We find Holiday Rentals very good and like Angie, have had people stay this year from Demark, Sweeden, Germany and Holland as well as the UK. As far as advertising in magazines go, I gentrally think that it is very expensive, although your ad would have a longer life than one of the daily papers, which may get thrown away after one day. I will PM you! Good luckSarah and Mark
That will be fun to watch - hope I get my new camera by then! Looking forward to our visit to the library next week - really pleased it is open again. We are always glad of a trip to Lago di Ruffino, one of our favourite places too Angie!
