Does anyone know how Italy is for asthma. Having only been couple of weeks at a time just wondering for people there long term how they find it compared to UK. Also how they cope for treatment. Thanks

I have just read the youth unemployement figures - very worrying! 40.5% in Italy (20.7% in UK) which will only lead to more youngsters leaving the country to find work. Ireland lost 400,000 15-24 year olds in last 3 years.
Did anyone see the programme on BBC4 last night - Good Italy Bad Italy - very interesting if not depressing.
I remeber a few weeks back someone said they couldn't have an electric kettle on at the same time as water heater. Is this something that only happens in rural areas or is it everywhere?
I am appealing for help please. My great nephew 8 year old Jude is now really disabled with Muscular Dystrophy. He is a really happy little boy but due to his deterioration finding things to keep him busy is becoming more difficult.
I just booked 2 seats Bournemouth to Pisa return for £28 all in. I just love Mr O'Leary. x
Thought it might be interesting to know why people chose the area they now live in. Whether its because you have family there, just like the area etc.
We havent visited Rome yet so have decided that's where our next visit will take us!

Greece was on the verge of bankruptcy but the Greek people seemed to cope ok with it and I haven't heard of foreigners having to leave so maybe we are worrying too much.Good luck with whatever you do .....and also James (as it was your thread)Just watching TV now with someone looking for a place near Ferrara.....ooooh!Joy
Hi Flower FairyGlad I am not the only one in limbo!! I think you and James and us should set up a comune! lol Hope you get sorted before your rental ends.Maybe Large Lewis can set us up in his garden.Joy
We have tentatively looked over several years and seen a few areas we like but prices by the sea in good areas don't appear to have come down at all in fact gone up. We do have extended family in Tuscany and they asked us to buy there but too quiet for us unfortunately.
Gala - My problem is I have 2 feet on the gound. LOL A stone ruin in an isolated place would not suit us at all. We would want something at least as good as we live in here but the italian places we have looked at would be 300 to 500 hundred thousand higher than here. My italian grandfather left his mountain village for a better life and as much as we would be welcomed back there I am afraid that is not what we want.
Portugal is tax free for 10 years I have been told - never been there but might have a look ;)I've worked hard for my money so i don't intend to 'give it away'!!!Probably half the Brits that moved to Spain had no money (looking at a recent programme on Benidorm) so the tax situation didn't bother them
We have been toying with going for a few years now but electric and house prices have put us off as we want something as good as we have here by the sea.The tax situation would cost us a hell of a lot more as we probably wouldn't be claiming hardly anything against it. :(
If your pension comes from the UK is it possible to have it taxed there rather than Italy or does that mean you need to spend so many days out of the country?
views are lovely - but unfortunately not much else :)
Thanks - glad you haven't had to find out!
Awful for those 2 couples. I have read before of not being able to sell when someone feels the need to leave hence I am wary of going into this without covering all angles. I have heard the health service is good but do not have the same sort of help in the community that England has so we would need to be able to fund this. I don't know if all areas are the same or whether the quality differs by much according to where you are. I read the other day that in Portugal you need to take out private health insurance to top up what is not covered. Is that the same in Italy - I haven't seen that before.
