'Tourists' in ITaly have now got a deroga from the government allowing them to buy stuff that costs more than 1000 euros with cash.
There is a hugely important element to the manovra published yesterday. For people who took residence in Italy to get prima casa, but dont actually live here...From 2012 you will pay 7/1000 on the value of any property owned OUTSIDE ITaly.

So the Nationwide has introduced bank charges - £1 fee and 2% commission on every withdrawal via ATM abroad - Im gutted. But, I had no advance warning and am also deeply annoyed. Anyone else in the same boat?

Does anyone have any info on the scudo fiscale. It seems that the new version is not only retroactive, but anyone bringing money into Italy could be liable for 5% tax if they are resident.
The disaster in the province of Messina goes to prove the instability and 'eyes wide shut' approach to living in Italy.

I think its a bit later than gothic revival - which in the UK would have been mid 1800's, and a bit later in Italy. To me its got a bit of the Egyptian influence that was more from the 1890s until the 20's - Not my taste have to say!
Giambrone has been struck off the Register of European Lawyers and ordered to pay costs of 70.000 euros. Of course this doesnt mean that he cant still operate in Italy, but with charges filed in the UK and this latest ruling, the writing may be on the wall.

CO detectors can be bought in various shops. AS far as I know, a CO2 detector is called a canary and went out of fashion some time ago, Lidl certainly dont sell them.

There are 77 state musems in Florence - so its a pick and choose thing. The one I would never miss (apart from the obvious) is La Specola - a museum below Palazzo Pitti which has the most incredible collection of wax bodies in various anatomical states. And full of primitive taxidermy - its fab.
Under Monti, alot of the separazioni tricks have been stopped. You have to nominate a family home - and cannot have 2 prime case in the same comune. The children have to live in one only and cannot be divided between two. - all precisely to stop the ITalian tax evasion game. -
