I wondered if anyone could explain how to calculate the car tax in Italy, I know it is to do with horse power etc but is there a useful website like our own DVL  site which can allow one to find out how much tax is paid  on say....

You will need a translator at the Rogito-we had an excellent young lady, really on the ball she had the old Notaio sweating at some points! Shame we didn't use our own Lawyer mind.....

The black tubing is just an easy way of getting 80 litres of hot water two or three times a day during the summer not a full on replacement for a solar set up, it works for us and later we'll have a "proper" system. (I thought your house was more likely to be let in the summer.)   Have a gander at this... http://homepage.ntlworld.com/john.gray11/b...y_in_ostuni.htm

A word of caution Atessa. Think about security issues before spending lots of dosh-if the house is isolated you could find the solar panels are stolen, a simple solar thermal hot water system can be had for less than 1000 euro, but once again thnk about security, desperate folk with bags of time will steal almost anything of value, whether in Italy or the UK. If you intend to live on site then by all means splash out, but if not then 100m of 32mm black tubing on the roof could provide at least  80 litres of hot water evey day all summer. Save the more expensive installations for when you are there full time.

Pay attention. Flip is  correct. Incidentally, I was in A&E  in Brindisi at Easter, very similar to my experience of A&E in Dundee in January. I certainly would not rubbish the NHS. In my experience there are just the same type of chronic smoking related health problems in Italy as one sees in most of the UK and the Italian health service is even more strapped for cash than the UK. Obviously there are variations across the country. However , if you are less than 65 then you realy need Private cover or buy extra NI contributions- if they let you.

Presumably the house is currently unoccupied. I would suggest sorting things out amicably with the geometra or you might find your property is severely vandalised by persons unknown. It's all very well to talk tough , but if you ain't on site , the property is very vulnerable. Don't fall out with the locals is my advice.
