(Re Woodburners )Are CO detectors widely available and mandatory as in the UK? I reckon we all should have them. Not seen them locally.

I was just about to wire up my workshop to the ENEL box this morning and discovered that the LIVE (Brown) and the EARTH wires are connected together at the meter tails, I was expecting the NEUTRAL and the EARTH wires to be connected together, has

Just wondering how feasible it is to buy a container and fill it with stuff in the UK and ship it out to Puglia? I rather thought I could use it as a workshop / store afterwards...but is it a runner??

I wondered if anyone could explain how to calculate the car tax in Italy, I know it is to do with horse power etc but is there a useful website like our own DVL  site which can allow one to find out how much tax is paid  on say....

Probably better to spend your money on a security firm in the first instance. As regards earthquake-does not the Italian government fork out??

It's nice to have a good debate about these things, seems these folk are trying to blind people with dodgy scientific claims.( I couldn't aford their system anyway  ) Incidentally, I'm still findining it difficult to get decent quality insulated plaster board in Italy, I want to use 92mm thick Kingspan K17 but the Gespol similar ( Italian ) product is 50% less thermally efficient anybody got a suggestion? A small price to pay to get the electricity back on.  Although it sounds like the bill wasn't fully paid up to date. ( We paid about 110 to reconnect 3kw supply). Remember there are a number of standing charges which must be paid whether the electricity is used or not. The bigger the supply the bigger the standing charge. Get a direct debit set up and keep a close eye on your meter. As a rule of thumb, I reckon on 20p per kw used taking all charges into account. There is a lot of good advice on this forum. Good luck with the project.

A cheapskate Scotsman like me who's towing a trailer and objects to being taxed (two vignettes) for  four hours use of their crappy motorway complete with roadworks and queues....don't get me started on the Nazi's bankers thread.. all hail the Gnomes of Zurich! Meine Fuhrer!!

Thanks for that, it seems daft that insulated board can still be cheaper after importing it! Seems that Italy is slow to act on EU insulation directives..

Tunnels I'm afraid, from Rotterdam via Mulhouse and Rimini, 3 days from Rotterdam around 700km each leg. Generally desparate to get to the house and get working. ( We get the ferry from Hull to Rotterdam) However the Gottard tunnel can be a bugger on the way back..so timing is crucial!!! PS You can buy Swiss vignettes much cheaper on ebay.de

Interesting idea, we are in Scotland, .The main thing I need to put in the container is insulated plasterboard Kingspan K17 to be precise,It's 50 per cent better, than the Italian equivilent (thermal performance). I reckon I need about 10 cubic metres. Kingspan will deliver for about 1200 euros plus vat. I thought I could fill a container with all sorts of odds and sods and save farting about with trailer loads and stressful motorway journeys However I 'm expecting a quote from "thecontainerman "  sometime soon... We have an ugly corner behind the stables where the container could sit fairly unobtrusively (some come with doors and windows fitted) we'll see how it costs out!   Crazy idea perhaps.....
