As promised, a post that may be helpful to others. We bought a LHD UK reg car last year and are now trying to re-register it here. Fingers crossed we are all sorted now but we have had to jump a hurdle which we had not anticipated.
We've realised that it may be another 3 years before this one has a home with us so perhaps it's time to pass it on. It's an AEG Favorit 40850. No longer in production but spare parts are available if necessary. Bought in 2005.
Land Rover Discovery 3 SE For Sale (Sulmona AQ) It's served its purpose for us so it may well suit someone else now.
We're off back to the UK for a visit by car and we'd like to stay in or near the city. Although I'm happy to do the usual searches on-line it would be helpful to have any ideas from Forum members.
Our lease is up at the end of April and we are putting out feelers. We've spoken to our local agents, asked our friends and colleagues, and we'll start to call the numbers on a selection of bright orange Affitasi notices that we've seen around to
My husband and I moved to Sulmona in the Abruzzo towards the end of last year.

We are just finishing up reregistering an Italian, then British car back to Italian reg. Should have been straightforward but the car had not been 'exported' properly and it has taken us 6 months and quite a bit of extra dosh to do so. Could solve a lot of problems for you but please check the status of the car. If it physically has plates on it it HAS NOT been exported according to regulations as in Italy you need to send the plates to the authorities as part of the export process. You can't just drive it out of the country, take the Italian plates off, and then put UK plates on it. Not sure if you can then buy an Italian car in the UK as the second hand sales process here in Italy is very different. Worth investigating certainly but may cause more hassles than you avoid.
Despite no text on this message I'm pretty certain I understand your question...Obviously you'll be needing some confetti for your guests. Not paper scraps to throw but small, sugar-coated almond sweets. White is traditional at weddings. I live in Sulmona (home of confetti!) so they are all around here but the best is definitely from Pelino. www.pelino.it
Do check regional variations on the rules and regs as they vary hugely. For example in Abruzzo you can have 4 bedrooms and up to 10 guests at any one time. Your cornetti are still supposed to be 'pre confezionati' here but again I don't think that's true in Toscana or Puglia.
I think the only documention you need is a residency doc and either your Carta d'Identita or a passport. Be prepared to pay cash though and also cash for the transfer of ownership procedure. If you do the transfer at one of the agencies you should be given the car's libretto and carta di circolazone docs to take with you...I think. I can't remember exactly - sorry.
I agree that this is indeed very useful information - thank you. My recollection however is that ENEL assume that you are a resident when you set up your initial account and charge you accordingly. They then send you a document to complete and return where you are also supposed to attach a copy of your residency doc as proof. Only if you don't complete and return this form do they then switch you to the more expensive rate and backdate your higher charges too. So, in effect, you have to confirm the automatic opt-in for the lower residents' rate. I couldn't honestly say if this is always the case but we have done this twice in the last 18 months - once in a rental and then on the flat we subsequently bought.
Right now we are waiting to hear if the re-register of the car has gone through. We've had to pay for its importation, and most likely will also have to pay back taxes for the previous owner, but we are hoping that at least we will be successful. I really hope that we might be able to claim some of these monies back but the dealer told us 'to the best of his knowledge' all paperwork had been correct and up to date. Obviously we should not have been satsified with this, and should have asked for some sort of guarantee, as there was no way of checking this info at time of purchase. Personally I blame the person at DVLA in Theale who rubber stamped the import in the first place. I'll try to update here when I have some news.
We can definitely recommend a Banco Posta account. We've been here 2 years now and haven't needed to have any other type of account. Pretty straightforward, OKish website & extremely good value compared to other Italian banks. As for broadband we have an ASDL service provided by Fastweb but we live in the middle of a sizeable town and it may not be good or even avilable in all areas. It's been a fair price (apart from what I consider to be a highish charge to move the service to a new flat) and speeds are infinitely superior to some which family back in the UK have. I have however heard some horror stories (on this site? not sure) about general customer service and difficulties cancelling a contract / DD.
I don't want to muddy the waters of this particular thread but we did also buy a second-hand car here. It was advertised on sibuto.it and we went to Rome to buy it. It wasn't overpriced and the transfer of ownership was pretty straightforward. Doing it the Italian way isn't always a less desirable option.
Land Rover Discovery 3SE. Will let you know total cost once the process is complete.
I have met a few great people through this site and I've enjoyed reading (and posting ocasionally) over the last 2 years or so. The slow loading has been annoying but not a deal-breaker for me. There hasn't been an awful lot posted recently of interest to me personally but I still drop in from time to time to make sure I'm not missing out! I do however post regularly on another forum that's just for my region of Abruzzo and it is much more lively. Why? Not sure to be honest. I don't think that there are any more members there. I think this type of forum just goes in cycles with new people dipping in and others dropping off. Perhaps those of us who wish the long-term survival of this forum should just each start a new thread on a topic which we know something about that might be of use to newbies and other members? I'll put mine up in a mo...
