Thank you for your reply however I was given a quote by the notary and this isn't included in his quote, but the seller says this is in addition. And nothing to do with the notary. this is what I don't understand. My friend bought a house recently and she didn't pay this registration tax. I would have thought that anything I have to pay should be through the Notaio I wonder if anyone else has paid this? My fees for the Notaio were already fixed

It sounds fishy to me - the notary should give you an 'all in bill' and registration fees are 50 or 250 euros. It may be that the seller is trying to get you to pay for a rettifica or something that he should be paying for. Ask him exactly what he is asking you to pay and check with the notaio.
