We are looking forward to our summer holiday in August when we will be spending 3 nights in Rome, sightseeing, and then driving down to Valvori to stay at the family home for the remaining 11 days. We do try and visit once a year finances pending, and ultimately would love to relocate out there, lets hope dreams come true.I'm looking forward to exploring the community and picking up lots of information and advice, perhap's even making some new friends along the way.Thats it for now, KevinHELLO AND WELCOME

Hello Malty - I have just read your post and immediately looked up the Valvori website to see where it is. Looks a lovely little place. How lucky you are to have an Italian speaking wife and family living in the area. It will make things so much easier when you come to relocate one day. We are buying a small place in the Lunigiana area, and should complete in a few weeks. We are learning everything along the way, and I can only say, if we had had previous experience of the Italian way of buying, or guidance on the ground, it would have been far simpler, and certainly we would have saved money in costs knowing what is important and what is not. Never mind. We decided that having a place in Italy would be a project to keep us entertained in retirement - learning the Italian way of doing things. We have had an introduction to the deep end! Enjoy your holiday. We are just waiting to hear when we will have to come to Italy to doing the signing up (and they paying!).

FromNowOn, Valvori is great, sits kind of in a dip on the top of a big hill(1000m) with mountains behind it, with the added bonus that we can see Montecasino from one or the windows. I'd be pacing up and down if I were in your shoes, so near yet so far! I'm fairly lucky regarding the Italian way of doing things, I worked for Italians for my first 18 years of employment , and got used to the " Why do it today if it will keep until another day" attitude. Fingers crossed all goes smoothy with completion. Kevin

and best of luck with your plans. We had three days in Rome in May and drove south stopping at Cassino and heading up to the Abbey (I did write trip reports for Rome Campania and Positano), lovely countryside. I am currently reading 'Italy's Sorrow' to get a grip on what went on in WW2 and the report of the conflict and photos of Cassino before and after is shocking.Have a great trip!
