Questions Asked

Does anyone know how Italy is for asthma.  Having only been couple of weeks at a time just wondering for people there long term how they find it compared to UK.  Also how they cope for treatment.  Thanks

I have just read the youth unemployement figures - very worrying!  40.5% in Italy (20.7% in UK)  which will only lead to more youngsters leaving the country to find work.  Ireland lost 400,000 15-24 year olds in last 3 years.

I remeber a few weeks back someone said they couldn't have an electric kettle on at the same time as water heater. Is this something that only happens in rural areas or is it everywhere?

I am appealing for help please. My great nephew 8 year old Jude is now really disabled with Muscular Dystrophy. He is a really happy little boy but due to his deterioration finding things to keep him busy is becoming more difficult.

Thought it might be interesting to know why people chose the area they now live in. Whether its because you have family there, just like the area etc.

Where are you travelling from?  holidays from the UK fly into Naples and then you stay in the Sorrento area and visit various locations as you prefer.

I would buy copies of their death certificates and if you don't already have it your mothers birth cert.  It could be that your grandmother was called by a different name to what was her official name.  Also her surname could have been mispelt.I guess you are in US due to 'Mom' ?  So not so easy to get to Lucca.  I had problems like you and then found relatives in Canada and US who could tell me the correct family surname!  I then found the family were from the top corner of Tuscany and off I went..... The records office there gave me full family details for 4 generations.  Good luck with your search.Joy

Do you have details of where they were from?  Names - dates?  You always start with info you have that you know is correct and then work backwards.

Hi Mario   I would advise you go to an auction just to look and listen, keep your hands in your pockets till you fully understand the procedure especially as you are not fully conversant with the language. :)

As he has his mothers birth certificate that will have her parents details and where they were from, time of birth even! I wrote to the comune to get my family details and they were helpful giving me details of my grandfathers family.  Then I went to Italy and found the regional office ( in Tuscany) and asked if they had any further info they could give me.  Within less than an hour she went back 5 generations with addresses, maps, copies of births, deaths etc.  Tell him to learn some Italian before he goes, be exceedingly polite and grateful and he will have a much better chance of getting help like I did :) good luckAlso the people on www.italiangenealogy.com site are really helpful and knowledgeable (most of them are in US)

Thanks SteveI've heard of a lot of property being bought for £30,000 to £60,000 and wondered if it was people in that sort of price range where if they left it wouldn't be exactly losing a 'fortune' whereas if they had £300,000 invested that could make heck of a difference to their life if they couldn't sell.I agree about knowing other peoples experiences can be so helpful.  We have been thinking about the move for several years now but still very undecided.  We were ready to do it before the crash and then businesses were very difficult to sell so we have still got it on the back burner :(Many thanksJoy

Steve.  The people staying 5-7 years or so.  Are these holiday home owners?   And presumably very cheap properties as you say after 6 years or so you could just walk away from it.Do people who move full time after selling up at home and buying more expensive properties - do they stay any longer? Why are people only staying 5-7 yrs is it that they can't fit in due to language etc or other reasons?ThanksJoy
