I know that this subject has been covered almost to infinity, but to try and help some friends out, I'd like to pose the question again in the hope of getting a simple reply that I can then pass on; Our friends live in Venarotta AP.

For those who are so inclined, this week at Lidl there's a feature on English food products (Apple Sauce; Mint Sauce; Mustard; Cheddar Cheese(?)); and quite a few more interesting items. If anyone is coming to Lidl at Castel di Lama; give us a rin

Very tongue in cheek(y) answer; however....First thing we need to establish; Bakewell Tarts are what you may find wearing a short skirt, bits hanging out etc in the Red Lion in Bakewell Market Square on Saturday night.Bakewell Pudding is the true dessert of Bakewell, and the strange concoctions that Mr Kipling started to circulate are nothing to do with the true Bakewell Pudding, the original recipe kept in the Original Bakewell Pudding shop in Bakewell town centre. (True to form there are 2 separate shops / companies that claim the original etc).Generally Italian families that invite you to eat with them like to think that they have catered for any eventuality, and that they have prepared anti-pasti; primo, secondo e dolce. We have found that taking something along is almost curiosity value, and my suggestion would be that rather than take something to eat when you go for the meal, do as the Italians would - take a small houseplant or similar. Wine I would suggest is a no no.A couple of days later turn up with your cakes, buns etc and they will be delighted. We did this with some nieghbours, and now we have a constant stream of exchange items; Jean's Kumkwat mamalade; their crostata, our Lemon Curd / Cheese, their crostini. Occasionally also veg and wine changes houses. Delightful it is too!P.s. Apologies to anyone from Bakewell, however they already know that the best thing that ever came out of Bakewell was the road to Matlock....

Ciao Valentina;Whilst in theory the English would revert to the phrase "If wet in the Village Hall" we simply don't have the facilities, and the risk of lighting a Barbeque indoors is risky to say the least...The venue for the Barbeque - "The Hideaway" - is one of the most picturesque that you could imagine, and the event will be greatly enhanced by the scenery and landscapes. We also need some room for a series of funny games including the use of an inflatable Martin Johnson (England Rugby Manager) and a number of hula-hoops.Whether we hold the event indoors or outside the attendance will always be determined by the weather, simply as people won't turn out in the numbers we hope to attract unless the weather is kind to us. We're hoping for 50 paying guests at least.Access to "The Hideaway" is difficult when the weather is bad, but I can assure you that once you're there it's well worth it!

why not bring them along to the BBQ on 15th July?

Sun, 07/05/2009 - 11:43

We're on the Salaria between Ascoli and Porto D'Ascoli / San Benedetto del Tronto, and we've been subjected to some absolutely incredible downpours accompanied by occasional violent wind (the weather not me). Reading on the 'on-line' press San Benedetto is well and truly flooded in parts. You can have a look at the various web cams at www.meteorivierapicena.net to get an idea. Glad we're not on the beach but instead in front of the telly watching the Mens' Final at Wimbledon!

If they come along to the BBQ we can introduce them to lots of chickens! They could even buy a set to try and put back together, or simply just enjoy them bbq-ed at a price!!! Don't know where we'll get the feathers from however.... Would be an eggsaparating eggsperience, but I suppose best not to eggsagarate. Eggsactly. Only yolking! I generally go to eggstremes about these things. Must be my natural eggsuberance. Just hope I'm not too eggotistic. Shell crack on now.

I think that anyone that you come in touch with regards local arrangements for chicken speak will most certainly be a local dialect user, so almost certainly your best bet for some words etc will be the local bar, or hanging out near the Consorzio Agricola. If you come along to the BBQ on Sunday, we'll all try to assist you in networking and therefore finding some answers. My neighbours have chickens, but the italian for "cluck cluck" and "Here chicky chicky" is difficult to understand. You could try;"Pol pol pol pol pollo, fa una picola uova per me..."

Dear HelenPlease accept my most heartfelt apologies that you didn't recieve an e-mail - irrespective of the fact that they are only available to those who can access the internet - and please be assured that if necessary we will welcome you with open arms next weekend if you decide to come along. As amateur organisers we're doing our best; the facility to contact each other also depends on the internet, and hopefully we'll do something next weekend that will not inconvenience anyone, particularly those who are obliged to live in a tent.Andrew
