I thought I'd tell you about something I read in the paper the other day.  Apparently Marche region is spending 12 million euro making sure that every comune is served by ADSL.

Is there any way we can have a sticky or make a post stay at the top of the list.

Hi all, I am trying to get the Ascoli Piceno ASUR13 to clarify the position regarding healthcare rights for permanent residents who are EU citizens. Currently, their ruling is that we may only have registration for 12 months at a time and that thi

My final recommendation for mountain restaurants (at least for the moment) is La Cittadella, again in Montemonaco. A wonderful mountain retreat with a pool with probably the best view in Marche!

Another lovely restaurant in the mountains. For good, hearty mountain food this is really excellent. We ate some of the best prosciutto I have ever eaten here, followed by cinghiale in Vernaccia with pappardelle - delicious!

I know this was on the old forum but I thought it was worth mentioning again. The restaurant Il Tiglio in Isola San Biagio (just outside Montemonaco) is something very different to the other restaurants in this area.

During my search for a document to take to the anagrafe office to shame the chap into giving me my permanent residency certificate, I found the state decree and subsequent circulars pertaining to the new (2007) residency laws.

You can officially rent out your main residence for a maximum of 60 days (hmm - might be 45 - sorry I can't remember precisely) without paying tax. You really do need an accountant's advice and you may not have to pay tax anyway.

Hmmm but I suspect that registering your presence at the police station is not a residency pemit so does not contradict the last statement Bunterboy. I wonder if this is due to the fact that Italian citizens are required to have an identity card and be resgistered in their local comune. If you arrive in Italy and stay at a hotel/B&B, your presence is registered by the hotel with the police, so I'm not sure anything has changed really - just that there is now a form for you to do it yourself.

€250 is far, far too much. Are you sure that didn't include the actual ICI itself too??

Don't bother phoning them. Write to them recorded delivery with copies of the faxes you sent cancelling the line along with the delivery receipts from the fax machine. Tell them you need a response within 14 days or else you will refer the matter to a lawyer. That usually prompts some action eventually.

In our part of marche there is a type of limestone 'gravel' (for want of a better word) that gets put on white roads You can get white or red. Apparently the red is the good stuff. This compacts down over time to become very hard. Could it be that?

Answer to: rain

We've all had no electric (came back on last night). The rain was horrendous and there are landslides everywhere. Then we had very wet heavy snow - the sort that brings your roof down. There are many roads closed and the Tronto burst its banks. There was (depending on which article you read) between 20 and 30cm of rain in 12 hours. Then we got snow.... Marche does seem to have had the worst of it and as Adriatica says the region has declared a state of emergency. It is definitely not confined to the coastal area here. Foce di Montemonaco was/is cut off due to an avalanche. Many roads are impassable due to mud or landslides or just collapsing. Won't be leaving my house for a few days I think.

Hi Flip, I'm not sure where the 60 minute thing comes from but I use Teleconomy Internazionale (the €10 a month deal for Western European Canadian & US calls from telecom Italia) and am often on the phone over an hour as I use it for work. It is all included in the €10. No need to hang up and I don't get charged extraif it's over 60 mins either.

I've used Movecorp and found them reasonable and reliable. However, the timings were not exactly as described. If that is not important, I would use them again.

That seems a lot. Why does your septic tank need emptying? It should soak away. We had a sesspit (no soak away) in the UK and used to pay about €80 every 4 months to get it emptied. Sorry, I don't know the price here but it seems extortionate.

All I can say is shop around. Take the €20,000 quote to the original supplier (who quoted €25k) and get them to beat it. Then when they do, take their lower price back to Follusci (is it them in Tolentino?) and get them to beat that. Painting and decorating does seem enormously expensive here for some reason. Paint is expensive here so that is definitely a factor. It should say in the quote whether it includes fitting. It usually does but not making good round the windows afterwards nor preparing the openings beforehand. They would usually expect there to be scaffolding up but it can be done off a cherry picker which can hired. The price of fitting will depend on wheter there are metal frames in place to receive the windows (usually done by the builder during a renovation). I have sent you a private message.
