Just wondering how feasible it is to buy a container and fill it with stuff in the UK and ship it out to Puglia? I rather thought I could use it as a workshop / store afterwards...but is it a runner??

I wondered if anyone could explain how to calculate the car tax in Italy, I know it is to do with horse power etc but is there a useful website like our own DVL  site which can allow one to find out how much tax is paid  on say....

We find those little fan heaters with a thermostatic control useful, you could set one to come on when the temperature drops  below say, 15 degrees, then it will switch itself off again. If the heater was on for 8 hours a day using the whole 2kw it would cost around £3 taking standing charges and stuff into account. So  around £100 a month for all your electric to stave off hypothermia! If you had a couple of heaters switched to the Ikw setting it would probably keep things more confortable. You'll need to heed Edwina Curry's advice and wear a woolly hat too! PS Stock up on energy saving light bulbs in the UK , Asda were selling them for 10p each, more like  a fiver in Italy!

In the UK when the" working classes " were given a day off they often took a day trip / picnic into the county on the new fangled railway, bless 'em. One contempoary account tells us the views of a local farmer "If all the hordes of visitors could just pick up a stone and have a sh*te us farmers would be much better off" Wise words indeed.

I'm with Alan on this one, spray your sewage sludge on the land.-Excellent for the tomatoes.- (A proper septic tank with a soakaway as Penny said)   shouldn't need to be emptied very often, Have you actually measured the depth of the sludge with a dip stick? I fitted an Imhoff system myself recently (well we hired a small digger to dig the hole to be fair)   but I did the rest and I'm not expecting to have to empty it very often at all, maybe every five years. Our second tank ,( yes we are a two septic tank family ) has not been emptied since we bought the hoose. I'll wait until the poo starts backing up into the loo before I take the plunge, so to speak! PS Apologies for the spacing, just had a wee malt...

http://www.insulationwarehouse.co.uk/contact.htm (Jason most helpful.) Eventually opted for trioso super 10, 144m2 (20% extra free) plus foil tape for 1300 squid.  It cost less than the shipping costs of Kingspan alone. So hopefullly, although it is more work to fit with double battening etc it should give a U value of around 5. The trioso stuff is manufactured in southern France funnily enough (Limoux) and they have an agent in Italy too. I'll be bringing the foil rolls out in my trailer in the summer and will report on it's efficacy later.. PM me for more details. Ciao Billy

Poor you, it sounds like the neighbours are just being awkward, it's certainly going to cost you more in legal fees to sort it out. I wish I knew someone who could help. Good luck and hope it all works out for you. Ciao Billy

Yeah we know about that - a bit like  a "Faraday cage", but I reckon we will need an aerial on the roof for a decent mobile/internet signal anyway.. more importantly, did the fancy foil insulation do the job as the manufacturer  claims? However, top marks for pointing out a potential downside-as it happens we'll be too busy/knackered to notice a lack of moble signal  in the short term. PS Can you believe  I've just calculated I need 660m of inch by two to dryline the hoose ceilings ,can it rteally be cheaper to haul it out from  UK?? Somebody stop me!!!
