TARI Tax 2024

Just had my TARI bill for 2024.  I used the PagoPA website to pay it online

I had major problems with it not accepting my payment - it seemed to freeze after the card details were entered.

Travelling back from Lake Orta area in N Italy, we travelled to the Simplon Pass to reach our first overnight stop in Sion.

Imagine our delight to find that a landslide has closed the pass "for the foreseeable future"

We used to use Book Depository to get books for our Italian friends at Christmas.

Book Depository now closed.  Does anyone know of an Italian (or EU) bookshop that will accept orders from the UK and deliver to an Italian address?

This route is an amalgam of ones I’ve tried in the past, when I had the time available [it will probably add at least 2 or 3 hours, and possibly more, to the normal journey time.]   Usually, when crossing Switzerland I do the motorway route  [Mulhouse - nip into Germany for the “Basle Bye Pass” – then Lucerne – St Gotthard Tunnel – Italy], but for a really scenic route, I would suggest the following options   Motorways as far as Lucerne, then a few km after passing Lucerne take the A8 towards Sarnen and Lungern.  Off onto a minor road to Meitingen  and then up the Grimselpass [on the 6-11 road]  to Gletsch.  At Gletsch you then have the option of either;-  Left  [my preferred option] -   [on the 19 road] to the Furka Pass and on the St Gotthard Pass [great views and a coffee shop at the top] and onto the motorway to Milan passing Lugano, or  Right  -  [again on the 19 road] to Brig [Interesting drive – but you miss the panoramic views on the other option], through the Simplon Pass and onto the motorway near Domodosola and thus on to the motorway [passing Lake Maggiore on your left] to Milan or Genova.   Hope this helps

You'll find lots of info here.   For example, if you do a search on driving to Italy you'll find lots of advice on the various routes to take. Interesting blog

You could try sending coseperlacasa  a PM  -  he seems to have a van that does the trip now and again.   Also jagodog says [in a previous posting] that he will be driving from Sardinia to UK at the end of Oct and returning in Nov. He has a transit size van

"i can only do 350 miles on a tank of diesel and this doesn't include towing i have a few Jerry cans but it doesn't seem to be a realistic option ..........As i would need over 10 cans to get to Italy." But if you take the Luxembourg - Besancon - Aosta  route I detailed above, and filled the tank at the service station just before you leave Luxembourg - you'd only need to get about an extra 100 - 200 miles worth of Diesel [5 to 10 gallons max - 2x5 gallon Jerry cans] even allowing for towing Or am I missing something?
