Questions Asked

Hello,

Can anyone help me - especially any Australians.

I have an Australian Client for whom I refurbished their house on Lake Como, now they are living in Italy for over 12 months, and in their Pension years.

Hello all, I am writing asking the forum for help on behalf of an Australian client for whom we are refurbishing her house in Italy. The Australian lady bought the house to refurbish wanting to take up Italian citizenship.

ANDREA is great, it is a very common name for a boy in Italy, which then can be used for a girl in english speaking countries - you get two for the price of one.

Hello Burt,I am a Northern Irish architect based in Milan, we carry out alot of renovation work, and I would love to offer you our sevices, but Rassina is just too far away from us, and we can't provide you with a good service at a reasonable price. I recommend getting someone that is local or at least not too far away so as visits to the Comune and site visits can be carried out frequently with ease. I can recommend my cousin who is also an architect based in Lucca - not really local, but not too far away. Let me know if you want his contact details and I will send them on to you. Also recommend that you meet first with any potentilal person you want to commission to manage the restoration works, as it is important to have a good "chemistry" and be on the same "wavelength" with whoever you entrust to design you future home.Best of luck,Conor

Hi - best thing is to contact the local estate agents and tell them that you intend to come on the week of 15th August. That week is like the week at Christmas where everyone is on holiday....but for Estate Agents and the tourism sector it is all part of their job that their clients or possible future clients come on that week -  you will certainly not be to only foreign clients or tourist who come to Italy in that week. But best email or phone the agents in advance so as the can organise themselves better to help you. Ciao Conor

Usually every "condominio" or apartment building has it's own rules, drawn up for each individual the apartment building usually written by the "Amministratore" (if there is one) - these usually explain, for example where you can or cannot leave you bicycle or pram, where the rubbish should go, where kids can or cannot play - if they can or cannot play ball games...etc.However, usually these rules are not on display anywhere and you need to ask  the Amministratore, or whoever administers the running of the apartment block, to send you them - or at least send you or explain you the one that is relevant to you. Ciao

The MilanoCard was introduced during the Expo 2015 (now over) and has been continued - it seems a good deal for someone trying to see as much of the city in a short time. See http://www.milanocard.it/ which is also in English. There are many things to see in Milan - off the top of my head the Last Supper by Da Vinci (Da Vinci spent a large part of his life in Milan and seemed happier in Milan than in Florence) - you need to book a viewing of the Last Supper in Basilica Santa Maria delle Grazie. Leonardo’s statue is in Piazza della Scala outside the Scala opera house not far from Il Duomo –  visit the Duomo cathedral’s massive interiors and see the rooftop views; then walk from Piazza del Duomo along via Dante to Castello Sforza, and park (Parco Sempione) beyond; then go to the Triennale (http://www.triennale.org/en/) design museumVisit the Navigli area famous for its lively night lifeAlso walk the "Quadrilatero della Moda” literal translation is “four sides of fashion” referring to the four streets, better translation is the Fashion District. The four streets are historically 1.via Montenapoleone 2. Via degli Spiga 3. Via Manzoni 4. Corso Venezia – but the first two are the quintessential fashion streets – fun to look at the extravagant shops and super high prices – I have never bought anything there but love to walk along it.Hope you have fun and enjoy yourself. Conor
